The safety and comfort of expectant mothers and their newborn babies is the guiding principle behind the work of the Maternity Unit at Hospital da Luz Arrábida. The Maternity Unit provides services that aim to meet all the requirements and needs of pregnant women.
To achieve this, the Maternity Unit is supported by a group of competent and accomplished professionals, including obstetricians, pediatric neonatologists, anesthesiologists and a nursing team that specializes in the care of pregnant women and newborn babies.
The Maternity Unit has an inpatient ward with individual rooms dedicated exclusively to women, which occupies an entire floor of the Hospital. There are two delivery rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, an operating theatre dedicated solely to caesarean deliveries, a recovery room, a cardiotocography room (a non-invasive examination to evaluate fetal well-being, involving recording the fetal heartbeat and uterine contractions) as well a room dedicated to admissions to the Maternity ward. Parents can access the delivery rooms via a separate zone equipped with changing room and rest area.
The Maternity Unit at Hospital da Luz Arrábida has a neonatology service, equipped with a nursery, transportable incubators, breastfeeding room, resuscitation equipment and a security system including electronic wristbands for newborn babies, which functions across the entire Maternity Unit.
The Intensive Care Unit at Hospital da Luz Arrábida supports admission and monitoring of high-risk pregnancies and associated pathologies.
Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Maternity Unit is supported by the total availability of its employees. This is also the case with the pediatric neonatal care unit, an essential resource for monitoring newborn babies, which reinforces parents' trust and sense of security with regard to the Hospital and its ability to respond rapidly.
All expectant mothers are invited to contact the hospital and schedule a visit to the Maternity Unit. Here, you may obtain all relevant information and clarify any queries in relation to where your baby will be born with the doctor who will follow the pregnancy and deliver your child.
