The Children's Hospital is dedicated to the health and welfare of children and young people.

The multidisciplinary services offered by the Children’s Hospital at the Hospital da Luz Lisboa work within a comprehensive framework for the provision of care as defined by the special needs of children who are ill as well as those who will be monitored throughout their growth and development. Professionals from all areas of pediatric intervention focus on maintaining and promoting good health and the physical and psychological well-being of children and young people via an integrated approach with family, school and society. The Children’s Hospital takes great care to support families in decision-making for all aspects of the child’s health in accordance with ethical principles and the practice of modern pediatrics.

Taking into account the specific needs of children and young people, we intend to respond to your every need, from simple to the more complex. The Children's Hospital offers a complete range of services including consultations in general pediatrics and pediatric specialties such as pediatric surgery, neonatology, developmental pediatrics, pediatric psychiatry, pediatric neurology, allerology, gastroenterology, nephrology, pediatric cardiology, orthopedics, among others. Emergency care for children is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and takes place within a distinct area of the Emergency Department reserved for children. In addition, there is a pediatric observation room with the possibility of isolation, a rapid cooling room, and a resuscitation room.

Understanding that a large hospital can be intimidating to young children, the physical spaces of the Children's Hospital were created to maximize their comfort levels and reduce their fear of the hospital environment. Areas reserved for children’s services are large, bright and comfortable. Waiting rooms and consultation rooms are decorated to appeal to children. Pediatric inpatient care takes place in specific areas for children and young people up to age 15.

The Children's Hospital participates in research and training activities with the aim of sharing knowledge and seeking new solutions to the problems of children and youth. Our staff also participate in community intervention initiatives in order to promote health education.
