Medical Intership at Hospital da Luz Lisboa

Medical Intership at Hospital da Luz Lisboa

Medical internship of specialty is a fundamental stage of medical training.

After several years – six years of faculty plus a common year –, physicians have finally the opportunity to get to know and study the area of specialty that they have chosen and intend to practice for the rest of their professional life. During internship, besides focusing learning in the area of knowledge of their choice, interns experience an important phase of daily, fast and intense development, that renders this stage of training particularly stimulant.

It is with equal enthusiasm that Hospital da Luz Lisboa offers candidate specialists specific training. This medical education activity was initiated in 2013, motivated by the conviction that training is essential for the creation of dynamic and updated teams of excellence.

Interns in specific training at Hospital da Luz Lisboa have access to a casuistics of great variability and complexity, benefit from the available advanced technology, and finally, but not less important, they count with training supervisors prepared and motivated for excellence.

Moreover, Hospital da Luz Lisboa offers training for interns from other institutions. This training is possible in those specialities included in the hospital’s educational competence or in units acknowledged to provide it.

Hospital da Luz Lisboa has educational competence, recognized by the Ordem dos Médicos (National Council of Doctors), to specific training internship in the following specialities:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Pathological Anatomy
  • Medical Oncology
  • Anesthesiology
  • Neurology

Educational competence is recognized by the Ordem dos Médicos to a clinical service, in the sequence of a process of evaluation performed by boards of specialty. This process confirms that the service has the conditions required to fulfil the plan of training established. The fact that a service has educational competence does not mean that it is competent to provide training in the whole program established. Therefore, part of the training stipulated in a program may be accomplished in another institution, for need or by choice of interns.

Hospital da Luz Lisboa also offers training to interns from other institutions. This training may be provided in the specialties the hospital has educational competence for, even when included in the educational program of other specialties. It is also possible to undergo accredited training in other areas, namely:

  • Echocardiography Laboratory
  • Cardiac Imaging Unit
  • Palliative Care Unit
  • Intensive Care Unit
