The Inpatient Units of the Hospital da Luz Lisboa provide patients, their family and friends, with the highest levels of safety, comfort and privacy.
At the Hospital da Luz Lisboa inpatient care is distributed amongst three acute care units, with 140 beds and two post-acute, Palliative and Continuous Care Units, with 98 beds, both of which have individual and double rooms. All rooms have a private bathroom.
The architecture and design are similar to those found in a modern hotel room, allowing the hospitalization period to be spent in a pleasant, welcoming environment. Patients have access to innovative technology in all rooms through the bedside cockpits. The cockpit consists of a computer housed in a mobile arm extending from the bed of the patient. This equipment provides the hospitalized patient with various multimedia entertainment and communication options. Through the cockpit the patient has access to the internet, can talk in videoconference with family and friends, listen to the radio, or simply talk on the phone or watch TV. In the future this equipment shall also allow the patient access to additional services such as the internal hospital computer system in the in order to choose their meals, order a newspaper, view expenses that have been charged to their account, resolve administrative matters related with their stay, and view educational information related to their illness or about the care they will receive.
The cockpit also allows doctors and nurses who care for the patient to access and document the clinical process. They may introduce information and notes into the patient file, and this information becomes readily available for other professionals to consult who are also involved in the care of the patient.
