Continuous and Palliative Care
The Continuous and Palliative Care Unit of Hospital da Luz has a dedicated team and operates on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The inpatient unit has 48 beds.
The Continuous and Palliative Care Unit is dedicated to the monitoring, treatment and clinical supervision of patients in need of rehabilitation who have lost some autonomy or who find themselves in complex suffering situations deriving from incurable, progressive illnesses.
The care plans developed by the Continuous and Palliative Care Unit are focused on patients and their families. Each care plan is tailored to the patient using an integral, multidisciplinary approach to the problems they face. Our aim is to ensure complete support for patients, offering rigorous, humanized health care that contributes to their comfort, dignity and quality of life.
The Continuous and Palliative Care Unit works in close cooperation with all the services of the Hospital da Luz, and in particular with Oncology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, General and Family Medicine and the Pain Unit. The unit is highly experienced in the care of patients with cancer, degenerative neurological pathologies, advanced organic failings, advanced forms of dementia, cerebral vascular accidents, post-surgical patients, post-accident patients and patients with neuromuscular illnesses, cystic fibrosis and incapacitating rheumatic illnesses.
The Continuous and Palliative Care Unit also provides support to patients hospitalized in other services of the Hospital da Luz, offers outpatient appointments, and participates in training and research.
The Portuguese Association for Palliative Care recognizes the Palliative Care Team of Hospital da Luz for compliance with the recommendations of the association.
