Hospital da Luz Learning Health Approaches Innovation in Healthcare Services
Hospital da Luz Learning Health is organizing the workshop “Innovation in Healthcare Marathon”, with the purpose of debating innovative solutions to be adopted by healthcare services, in order to respond to the increasing demand related with higher life expectancy and population ageing.
The initiative, happening between September 25 and October 19, is a partnership with Faculdade de Ciências of Universidade de Lisboa and Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica (IDMEC) of Instituto Superior Técnico, counting with the participation of physicians, data scientists and master students in Health Care Innovation from Copenhagen Business School.
“The great challenges we face today in health can only be overcome within an approach considering multiple areas, working together to attain common goals. And this, always bearing in mind the patient as an individual”, explains Daniela Dias Santos, joint-director of Hospital da Luz Learning Health and director of the workshop.
Thus, along four weeks, those professionals will work in multidisciplinary teams, in order to respond to the “challenges and specific needs of the ageing population, in particular the substantial increase in the use of health services”, which is one of the objectives of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT Health), that also supports this master program.
The workshop aims a practical approach of the problems raised: besides lectures and seminars, the course includes case studies, data analysis and the presentation of works by the participants.
Among the lecturers, there will be managers from Grupo Luz Saúde, physicians from Hospital Beatriz Ângelo and Hospital da Luz Lisboa, professors from partner institutions and members of companies such as Beta-i and Vesalius Biocapital.
Also participating in the program, there will be elements from three start-ups in the health area. Amiko, one of the winners of the Fidelidade Protechting Program 2017, which develops a product allowing a rigorous and quantitative follow-up of the quality use of inhalers in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The other start-ups are NeuroPsyCAD, which is developing an earlier form of diagnosis for neurodegenerative diseases, and Sword Health, which uses sensors to accelerate the recovery of patients in physiotherapy.
The sessions of “Innovation in Healthcare Marathon” will be held at Hospital da Luz Learning Health and at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures.
