Kris Maes trains Belgian surgeons in new robot equipment
Kris Maes, the urologist and coordinator of the Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Center at Hospital da Luz was again asked to provide training in robotic surgery at the Imelda Hospital in Belgium.
This time, the training focused on robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy, using the new system of Da Vinci Xi (Intuitive Surgical) robotic surgery at the Imelda Hospital. A patient with a 3.5 cm tumor and an abnormal vascularization of the kidney was operated. The new equipment allowed surgeons to perform the procedure in a shorter time period and reduce the period of ischemia.
Last September, Kris Maes had been at the Imelda Hospital to give training in radical prostatectomy using the new system of Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery, one of the first installed in Europe.
