Free Screening for Diabetes at Hospital da Luz Setúbal
Hospital da Luz Setúbal will perform, in November 14, the World Diabetes Day, a free screening for that disease, open to the population in general.
All those interested should go to Floor 0, between 9:00 a.m. and 13:00 p.m., where they will be assisted by a team led by Paula Dias, coordinator of the specialty of General and Family Medicine of this hospital.
It is worth mentioning that diabetes – a glucose metabolism disorder – is a chronic and often silent disease. It is estimated that about 40% of Portuguese with diabetes ignore that they have the disease, the screening being therefore fundamental.
The screening is recommended for everyone above 45, in particular to those having risk factors – such as, for instance, overweight, family with diabetes history, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases and high levels of cholesterol.
The disease should be treated as soon as possible to avoid severe chronic complications.
