Hospital da Luz Work Published in the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging

The journal of the North American Society of Imaging published an article of scientific research by Hospital da Luz cardiologists on the cardiac impact of physical exercise.

The International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, the official journal of the North American Society of Imaging, published in its July edition a research article by a team of cardiologists from Hospital da Luz.

Entitled “Myocardial deformation and volume of exercise: a new overlap between pathology and athlete’s heart?”, the article is based on a study of the cardiac impact of physical exercise, namely the alterations produced which can overlap pathological conditions, complicating the clinical diagnosis.
The specific purpose was to evaluate longitudinal myocardial deformation in athletes practising exercise with different degrees of intensity and frequency.

The authors of the paper are Hélder Dores, Lígia Mendes and Nuno Cardim (from Hospital da Luz Lisboa), José Ferreira Santos (clinical director of Hospital da Luz Setúbal), Paulo Dinis (from Centro de Saúde Militar de Coimbra) and José Carlos Monge (from Hospital das Forças Armadas).

The International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging publishes research articles on the use and development of techniques such as magnetic resonance, X-ray, echocardiography and computer tomography in the study of cardiovascular diseases.
