Hospital da Luz Arrábida Oporto Spine Unit participated in the second international masterclass promoted by ESUBE (European Society of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy), which took place in Seville between 26-28 February . The team consisting of orthopaedic surgeons Filipe Lima Santos , Eduardo Moreira Pinto , Maia Gonçalves and Ricardo Frada , all specialists in biportal endoscopic spine surgery assumed an active role as scientific committee of this prestigious minimally invasive surgery advanced course. This training event counted with the participation of over 300 surgeons from different countries, who took the opportunity to develop knowledge and share clinical experience in biportal endoscopic surgery (UBE – unilateral biportal endoscopy), an innovating technique becoming increasingly relevant in the treatment of spine pathologies. The program included theoretical sessions with clinical cases analysis and a strong practical component, allowing participants to contact directly with the latest minimally invasive approaches. The main goal was in fact an intensive practical training and updating in spine endoscopic techniques, promoting more precise and safer surgical approaches with less impact on the patient . Biportal endoscopic surgery stands out in this context by enabling a faster recovery, lesser aggression on tissues, and better functional results. “Participation in this international masterclass represents a unique opportunity of knowledge and contact with the most advanced techniques in the area of spine surgery. This kind of experience enables us to continue evolving and offering our patients increasingly safer, more efficient, and minimally invasive techniques”, points out orthopaedist Maia Gonçalves , of the Oporto Spine Unit team. Hospital da Luz Arrábida was distinguished by ESUBE, earlier this year, as International Surgical Centre of Excellence in Spine Endoscopy. This is the first centre in Portugal to receive this acknowledgement. This participation in the masterclass reinforces the position of the Hospital in the forefront of innovation and continuous medical training – which reflects directly in the quality of healthcare provided, since ensuring patients access to innovating therapeutical solutions, in line with the best international practice in spine surgery.
