Hospital da Luz Coimbra recently performed a total hip arthroplasty resorting to a new intraoperative navigation system. This new technology allows higher precision in prosthesis placement, a better control of surgical parameters, and a more accurate adaptation to the patient’s anatomy. Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique enabling access to the hip joint through small incisions and treatment of the pathology. This surgery was performed at Hospital da Luz Coimbra by the team of orthopaedists Fernando Leal and Francisco Alpoim Gomes (in the photo above, with the robotic system assistance team), via direct anterior approach. This technique provides higher surgical accuracy and predictability of results, better alignment and prosthesis placement, with significant global impact for the patient in terms of recovery . The combination between experienced surgical technique and advanced technology represents a major step in the evolution of hip surgery, always with a view to the best result possible with safety, quality, and innovation.
