It is believed that the sandwich was invented by John Montagu (in the 18 th century), the fourth Earl of Sandwich, who asked a servant to bring him some slices of bread and beef, so that he would not have to go home for dinner and interrupt his whist, a card game very popular at the time. The other players followed his example and the small town of Sandwich, in the southeast of England , not only claims, but even celebrates the alleged invention to this day, although historians deem it impossible to confirm. It is accepted that Montagu gave an extra boost to the fame of the sandwich, but the habit of combining food with bread or dough is lost in time. As for wraps , consumed since long among people such as Arabs, Mexicans, Greeks and Turks, are some kind of “cousins” of the sandwich that have conquered Europe these last years. The truth is that nothing is more popular nowadays than two slices of bread or a wrap well-stocked with a single or several ingredients. In more simple and conventional or more elaborated recipes , they can include cold or smoked meats, canned ingredients, eggs, cheeses, lettuce and other vegetables, simple or shredded, and sauces or aromatic herbs to finish. Both sandwiches and wraps are, above all, easy to make , simple to transport and a good option for snacks, picnics, light meals, or simply when there is no time to seat at the table, being able to be consumed anywhere. Particularly in the summer, they are ideal to take to the beach .
