Hospital da Luz Coimbra has established a partnership with swimmer Diogo Cancela, initiative that reinforces the investment of this institution on high-performance sport and the promotion of national talent. Under this agreement, the athlete now counts with specialized follow-up by this hospital’s Sports Medicine Centre, benefiting from an integrated approach at the level of prevention, clinical follow-up, recovery, and sports performance optimization. The goal is to support Diogo Cancela along his competitive journey, ensuring him access to differentiated care and a multidisciplinary team prepared to meet the requirements of high competition. The protocol was formalized by Diogo Cancela and Pedro Beja Afonso, Hospital da Luz Coimbra managing director (both in the photo above). “It is with great pride that we accompany Diogo along this stage of his career. Besides talented, he is an example of determination, resilience, and overcoming ability. Through our Sports Medicine Centre, we aim to help him achieve his goals and continue developing his potential”, stated Pedro Beja Afonso. “Adaptive sports deserve our full attention and recognition. This collaboration enables us to stand by an athlete representing Portugal at the highest level, and reinforces our investment on differentiated preventive sports medicine, adjusted to the specific needs of every athlete”, he added. Diogo Cancela has been excelling in adaptive swimming, both at national and international level. He has represented Portugal in some of the most important competitions in the modality, recently winning the bronze medal in 100-meter butterfly, in the Adaptive Swimming European Championship, which took place in Kocaeli, Turkey. The Hospital da Luz Coimbra Sports Medicine Centre will follow-up the athlete on an ongoing basis, not only in competition moments, but in every stage of preparation, according to a model integrating medical knowledge, prevention, recovery, and performance. For Hospital da Luz Coimbra, this is another partnership reflecting its commitment to projects encouraging sports practise and contributing to the success of athletes of excellence. Supporting sports is one of our bets: together for a safe practise of physical activity as a fundamental resource towards a healthier life.
