The 11 international teams that are attending the Patient Innovation Bootcamp, a European program of entrepreneurism destined to patients and caretakers visited, last September 2, the Training and Simulation Centre of Hospital da Luz Learning Health . During the visit, guided by the director of this Luz Saúde company, the teams got to know the activity of the centre, namely the training courses for health professionals and the work with start-ups towards the development of new products in healthcare providing. Francisca Leite , the director of Hospital da Luz Learning Health, started by stressing the relevance of the solutions proposed by the entrepreneurs participating in the bootcamp. And explained, in this regard, the increasing need to have access to spaces and teams such as those from Hospital da Luz Learning Health and Grupo Luz Saúde, which can support the development of these projects, from the initial idea to its testing near the patients. Patient Innovation is an online platform, where patients and caretakers from all over the world can register and share solutions conceived by them or developed with the help of collaborators, to surpass problems imposed by their disease or health condition. Through partners and scientific sponsors, Patient Innovation supports the development of such solutions, the bootcamp being a program to that end organized by a European consortium of Spanish, Danish, Swedish and Portuguese institutions, and participants are supposed to develop the medical and technological aspects of their innovations, with the support of specialists. Since its foundation, in 2014, Patient Innovation has received over a thousand new solutions , originating from 80 countries. The project, started by Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics in partnership with MIT Sloan School of Management, and Carnegie Melon University, has been supported by renowned scientists and patient associations from all over the word. In Portugal, it also counts with the collaboration of the Institute of Molecular Medicine, and the Medicine Faculty of Universidade de Lisboa.
