Hundreds of Xi-Coração – a rabbit with a big heart and even larger arms, the mascot of Fundação Rui Osório de Castro – took by assault the Christmas trees in all Luz Saúde units. This was the way found to support this institution, in the scope of the initiative “20 years, 20 causes” , with which we are celebrating our 20 th anniversary. Fundação Rui Osório de Castro has for main goal to support and protect children with cancer and respective families, dividing its activity into two main areas: information (clarification sessions for parents and children on questions related with child cancer) and promotion of medical research in this area. It was created in 2009 by Maria Karla Osório de Castro and her children, Catarina and Filipe, to the memory and homage of the husband and father, Rui Osório de Castro – civil engineer, manager and entrepreneur in the area of transport and construction. In 2010, it gained the status of Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) and Public Utility. The mascot Xi-Coração, created to convey the values of the foundation, is also one of its means of fundraising: a soft toy with a big heart and even bigger arms – to embrace all the children and achieve, on day, the dream of “embracing the whole world”. In this Christmas, we are the ones embracing Xi-Coração!
