A study developed at Hospital da Luz Lisboa (HLL) and Hospital de Santa Cruz was distinguished as the best clinical scientific communication , in the congress of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT), which took place virtually on the 16 and 17 July. This was the first time that the award was granted to a Portuguese team. The study had for authors António Ferreira (HLL cardiologist), Hugo Marques (radiologist responsible for the Unit of Cardiovascular Imaging by CT and MRI at HLL), Pedro Araújo Gonçalves (coordinator of the Centre of Interventional Cardiology at HLL), Pedro Freitas (HL Oeiras) and Pedro Lopes (from Hospital de Santa Cruz). Along their work, they examined how to include the information of coronary calcium score in the evaluation of the possibility of a patient with thoracic pain having an obstructive coronary disease. Founded in 2005, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography gathers physicians and researchers from over 85 countries that work in the area of cardiac computed tomography, having for purpose to develop the application of this technology with the best results possible for patients. This study by Portuguese physicians and researchers faced as final competitors works by UCLA (California, USA) and by the Houston Methodist Hospital (Texas, USA).
