“To help parents and educators answer all questions and fears of the young ones about vision” is the main goal of Cláudia Bacalhau , Hospital da Luz Setúbal ophthalmologist, author of “O Livro da Visão” (The Book of Vision), released this week. The book presentation will take place on May 20 (6 p.m.), in the auditorium of Hospital da Luz Setúbal, with online streaming accessible to all those interested in watching. Resorting to appealing characters and illustrations by Carolina Antunes e Silva, the book approaches different themes related with vision , in a simple and fun way, yet thorough, namely: The anatomy of the eye and its functions; Diseases that can affect vision; How is it like an ophthalmologist consultation (“eye doctor”); Why do some people have to wear glasses; Curiosities about vision (like, for instance, optical illusions); How are some treatments and exams done in ophthalmology; Precautions to take with eyes; The danger of monitors and sun exposure, among others. The “Book of Vision” is recommended by the president of the Ophthalmology College of the National Association of Doctors and includes an insert with cardboard glasses to cut and play, thus aiming to demystify the fears some children have, when they have to wear glasses.
