Hospital da Luz Clínica de Odivelas performed, for the first time, last January 14, an innovating surgical intervention to the lumbar spine , consisting in a less invasive approach, that has the advantage of a faster and less painful recovery for the patient. The technique – designated transforaminal endoscopic lumbar surgery – was applied for the removal of a lumbar herniated disk, viewing to resolve the patient’s complaints of pain irradiating to a leg. This surgery was carried out at Hospital da Luz Clínica de Odivelas in the context of ambulatory surgery, by a team coordinated by José Miguel Sousa , orthopaedist and spine specialist, having Pedro Xavier for assistant. The team also comprised Verónica Schuler (Anaesthesiologist), Nuno Gonçalves (Imaging technician) and nurses Tiago Augusto, Isabel Duarte and Tiago Lopes.
