Urologists Nuno Tomada and Pedro Vendeira performed, last January 18, an innovating surgery, where they applied the Tactra prosthesis , developed by Boston Scientific. This is the f irst time that such penile prosthesis is used in Portugal and the surgery proceeded with no complications, the patient being discharged the day after. Tactra prosthesis is malleable and easier to implant, registering better acceptance by patients, as it consists of two layers of soft silicone, with a nitinol core. It is implanted in patients with serious erectile dysfunction , usually after prostate cancer treatment or subsequently to metabolic and/or cardiovascular disease. In the meanwhile, Nuno Tomada participates, between 23 and 25 January, in the congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine , where he is a member of the executive board. During the congress, in Prague, he presented a video of a surgery for inflatable penile prosthesis implantation and gave two lectures on penile elongation and non-surgical therapeutics of de La Peyronie disease .
