Hospital da Luz Aveiro will soon have available the specialities of infectology and cardiac surgery, and will develop video consultations and the service of clinical screening LUZ 24, among other projects – reveals in an interview to “Diário de Aveiro” the new managing director, Pedro Beja Afonso . Also Hospital da Luz Oiã “will be reinforced in its assisting profile and will be able to provide a significant response in health to the region south of Aveiro”, adds the 47-year-old manager, who was already responsible for the Luz Saúde units in the district of Coimbra. The main priority is now “to implement a network of care, based on the articulation between the different units” of Luz Saúde, “where Hospital da Luz Coimbra will act as an important support to Hospital da Luz Aveiro, namely due to the fact of having a Unit of Intermediate and Intensive Care ”. “This fact alters the whole configuration of the response capacity of Hospital da Luz Aveiro and its physicians, since all patients that resort to us will get a clinical response, locally or at Hospital de Luz Coimbra, without losing the connection with the assisting physician”, he further states. For instance, the Hospital da Luz Aveiro oncologic patients will benefit from the Centre of Oncology at Hospital da Luz Coimbra. The present executive director of the hospital and clinics of Hospital da Luz network in Coimbra, Cantanhede, Figueira da Foz and Pombal, Pedro Beja Afonso is now the responsible for managing the operation of the Luz Saúde units in the whole Centre region – where are also included the hospitals in Aveiro and Oiã, and a clinic in Águeda. “It was with great enthusiasm and sense of responsibility that I took this new challenge within Luz Saúde”, he highlights in this interview, adding that it is also “a professional return to Aveiro”, where he has family connections. Working in the health sector for about 25 years, he was a member of the executive board of Hospital Infante D. Pedro, Centro Hospitalar Entre Douro e Vouga, Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra, and afterwards, president of the executive board of Hospital Distrital da Figueira da Foz.
