Hospital da Luz Oeiras has now an Oncology Centre , that offers patients in this area of residence all the conditions for the diagnosis and treatment of oncologic diseases. This new centre operates in articulation with the Oncology Centre at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, being also directed by oncologist José Luís Passos Coelho . “In such a delicate phase and of such individual fragility as that implied by oncologic treatments, the proximity and personalization of care is essential, constituting the differentiating element at Hospital da Luz Oeiras. To offer these treatments in the area of residence of our patients was a serious project that now came true”, highlights Sara Viana Baptista , the clinical director of Hospital da Luz Oeiras. “Oncologic diseases require the involvement of multiple professionals from the areas of diagnosis (including imagiology, pathological anatomy, nuclear medicine, gastroenterology or pulmonology) and from the area of treatment (surgical specialities, radio-oncology and medical oncology), all of them present at Hospital da Luz Oeiras or in articulation with Hospital da Luz Lisboa”, explains José Luís Passos Coelho , further adding that “a crucial point is the multidisciplinary consultation , with the participation of specialists from those different areas”. Which means that, in the different moments of the course of oncologic disease for each patient, “these professionals give their contribution for the definition of the strategy of treatment”. In fact, “the oncologic multidisciplinary consultation is common to the several hospital institutions” of Hospital da Luz network, in the Greater Lisbon area. Besides the multidisciplinary approach to cancer, the Hospital da Luz Oeiras Oncology Centre distinguishes itself by the prompt response and total availability in the support to patients and respective families. It integrates professionals from all medical specialities and other clinical specialities, in order to provide healthcare of excellence in the following areas: Breast cancer; Prostate, kidney and bladder cancer (uro-oncology); Lung cancer; Colorectal cancer; Esophageal, gastric and duodenal cancer; Liver and biliary cancer; Pancreatic cancer; Ovarian and uterine cancer (gynaecologic cancer); Neuro-oncology; Head and neck cancer; Leukemia and lymphoma. Equipped with the most modern technology, this Oncology Centre ensures the performance of the necessary diagnostic exams (all more specific exams not available are articulated with Hospital da Luz Lisboa). Oncologic surgeries are ensured by the surgeons and the operating room from Hospital da Luz Oeiras, the chemotherapy treatments and support therapeutics being carried out in the Day Hospital of this unit.
