Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim received the bikers’ community on January 19 for a specific educational and training session on First Aid for Bikers , which attracted large involvement and interest. Along all morning, bikers had the opportunity to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on how to help a victim until the arrival of a specialized team. During the session – developed by nurses Bruno Marques , Pedro Oliveira , Sónia Silva and Tiago Pereira , belonging to the nursing team of the Emergency Service of this hospital –, the following topics were approached from the theoretical and practical point of view: First approach to the victim; Safe lateral position; Airway clearance manoeuvers; Biker emergency card; Helmet removal techniques. The participants also had the opportunity to undergo training with basic life support simulators (BLS), learning what to do facing a victim in cardiorespiratory arrest – an extremely important intervention to save lives and prevent irreversible lesions. Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim would like to thank in particular Pedro Vaz (biker and Hospital da Luz clinical psychologist) and the bikers group, NCX’istas do Norte , for the support in the organization of this event and its promotion near the community. The enthusiasm generated by this initiative from the very beginning among the bikers’ community, leads us to prepare new editions along 2020 , in dates to announce shortly.
