Liliana Tribuna, imaging superior technician from Hospital da Luz Aveiro, was a speaker at EuroCMR 2019, the annual congress of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), organized by the European Society of Cardiology , which took place from 2 to 4 May, in Venice. Liliana Tribuna’s communication – entitled “Cine short-axis image quality on 3T cardiac MR” – was based on a study conducted in the imaging service of Hospital da Luz Aveiro and had the purpose of optimizing the cine short-axis sequence in the magnetic resonance device Canon Vantage Galant 3 Tesla. The cine short-axis sequence is one of the major image acquisition techniques in cardiac examination by MR, the quality being directly related with the parameters of acquisition and also with users’ collaboration. In this study, several parameters of image acquisition were altered and the resulting quality and reliability were assessed by three physicians specialized in cardiac MR. The research enabled to conclude, among other aspects, that the increase in the number of K-space segments, combined with a short time of acquisition, produces the best image quality, while the flip angle reduction results unquestionably in the worst image quality. Cardiac MR is a non-invasive technique in cardiovascular radiology, in constant development, and with quality directly related with the characteristics of the equipment, image acquisition and users’ collaboration. EuroCMR is the major European meeting of specialists in the area, counting with over a thousand participants, among cardiologists, radiologists and other professionals. The motto of this year’s congress was “To raise the clinical value of cardiac magnetic resonance through quality and evidence”.
