Hospital da Luz Coimbra assumed the sponsoring of the teams of the Basketball Section from Associação Académica de Coimbra (AAC) for the season 2019/2020. The protocol was signed between the two entities, by Pedro Beja Afonso, Hospital da Luz Coimbra manager, and João Frazão, president of AAC/Basketball. Hospital da Luz Coimbra is, therefore, the official entity providing medical services to AAC/Basketball senior and training teams. Counting with around 150 athletes, this section has obtained good results at local and national level. “This partnership will answer the need to offer all athletes of Académica Basketball Section a clinical assistance allowing a safe practice of this sport modality, with response times and conditions compatible with the level of activity and competition presented by Académica. We hope that this coalition will demonstrate that the investment of the most representative companies of the city and region in the development of the second most practiced collective modality in Coimbra by its most representative sports club, can result in mutual benefit and in the strengthening of life in this city”, highlights João Frazão . And the president of AAC/Basketball further appealed to the presence of the population and Académica supporters in the high level matches that are disputed in Pavilhão Mário Mexia, on Saturday nights. Pedro Beja Afonso stressed, on his turn, that “this partnership encourages the practice of sport among the younger generations, also allowing that both seniors and training teams find in Hospital da Luz Coimbra a diversified and highly specialized offer of health services”.
