Filipe Riobom Brochado , specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Hospital da Luz in the units of Amarante, Porto and Póvoa de Varzim, participated in the TV show “A tarde é Sua”, on TVI channel, on December 16, where he explained in what consists the augmentation mammoplasty he performed in the candidate selected by the TV channel. Mammoplasty is a surgery that aims to alter the size and/or shape of the breast, through augmentation or reduction. In the case presented on TVI, Filipe Riobom Brochado applied an augmentation mammoplasty, since the candidate, due to multiple weight fluctuations, had completely lost the shape and volume of the breasts. The surgery was done via inframammary incision (at the level of the inframammary fold), through which the most adequate prosthesis to the case was inserted: “This is an anatomical prosthesis, that simulates the most natural shape of the breasts”, explained the plastic surgeon. Mammoplasty is a relatively simple surgery, with no pain – by the application of local anaesthetics, besides medication administered orally and intravenously – and “recovery is also relatively fast”.
