The Oncology Unit from Hospital da Luz Setúbal , created in July 2016 to answer the health needs of the community it is integrated in, has presently an intense activity and serves a population coming from the three major districts of the South of the country: Setúbal, Beja and Évora. The screening of oncologic pathology is fundamental and can be prescribed in a routine consultation by your family doctor, in the service of General and Family Medicine of Hospital da Luz Setúbal. In this hospital, there is also an Imaging service equipped with the latest technology, working with close collaboration with the Unit of Oncology and supporting the diagnosis and treatment of oncologic diseases. In case of suspected breast pathology, for instance, the patient is referred to a Senology consultation, where the case will be evaluated by dedicated specialists. The oncologic patient path will go also through a multidisciplinary consultation, for therapeutic decision, where all specialities involved in cancer treatment will be present, such as Imaging, Clinical Pathology, Surgery and Radiotherapy, among others. A well-equipped operating theatre and teams specialized in oncologic surgery, inpatient care where the priority is the patient, and the oncology consultation to follow-up and monitor treatment, are also part of this integrated and dedicated work to oncologic patients. And finally, the Day Hospital at Hospital da Luz Setúbal , where the oncologic therapeutic is administered, has available a mobile phone support line, operating 24 hours a day, which allows patients to communicate regularly with the team of the Oncology Unit.
