The Service of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hospital da Luz Lisboa has now available classes of Clinical Pilates, General Mobility and Scoliosis. These new services are destined, for instance, to clients that need to correct body or posture imbalances, with or without pain and pathologies associated, or who simply wish to maintain physical activity with technical supervision after physiotherapy or because they suffer from a spinal chronic disease. The scheduling and attendance of Clinical Pilates , Scoliosis (for cases of infantile, juvenile and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis) and General Mobility classes can be made directly – meaning that a previous medical consultation at Hospital da Luz Lisboa is not compulsory. But in the absence of medical indication to attend such classes, or in case of doubt as to the most appropriate class, it is advisable to schedule a previous Physiatry consultation. These new services are provided at fixed rates, meaning that they are not covered by insurance agreements or health subsystems. Clinical Pilates Class Clinical Pilates consists in a series of therapeutic exercises that globally promote the rehabilitation and muscle and physical strengthening, the correction of body and posture imbalances, the prevention of lesions, the improvement of breathing and increased concentration, generating global physical well-being. This class, with 45-minute sessions conducted by a physiotherapist, is destined to: People with algic complaints and/or associated pathologies (for instance, situations of cervical pain, low back pain, herniated discs, knee prosthesis, among others); More or less sedentary people, with no algic complaint or specific pathology, but who wish to practice some activity in a safer, and more controlled and personalized manner. General Mobility Class The purpose is to improve mobility at all levels, with particular emphasis on the spine, by means of specific exercises that help to: Correct incorrect posture; Prevent lesions; Increase concentration; Improve balance, reflexes and motor coordination. This class, with 30-minute sessions conducted by a physiotherapist, is destined to: People over 65 years old; People that have concluded individual physiotherapy sessions and wish to maintain supervised physical activity. Scoliosis Class This class, with 30-minute sessions conducted by a physiotherapist, is specifically destined to children and young people with infantile, juvenile and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (between 8 and 18 years old).
