Hospital da Luz Setúbal will start offering, from April on one, childbirth preparation courses for pregnant women, either followed-up or not in this unit. Provided by nurses specialized in maternal health and obstetric care, the Course on Childbirth Preparation and Parenting is destined to women with 28-30 weeks’ pregnancy and consists of 10 sessions of 1h30 duration, twice a week. Organized in groups of 10 pregnant women (maximum) and respective companions, the sessions approach topics related with pregnancy, labour and delivery, puerperium and neonatal care. The purpose is that parents-to-be can acquire competences that will enable them to make informed decisions, thus reducing insecurity and allowing a more peaceful and rewarding experience of pregnancy and childbirth.
