José Presa Ramos is the new president of the Portuguese Association for the Study of the Liver (APEF), for the biennium 2021-2023. Specialist in Internal Medicine at Hospital da Luz Vila Real and Hospital da Luz Clínica de Amarante, Presa Ramos was elected in the 24 th Portuguese Congress of Hepatology , that took place last May 28, in Fátima. “I view this election with great pride, but at the same time with great responsibility, as for the next two years we will take on the task of managing a scientific society with over 300 associates, and participated by several medical specialities”, stated José Presa Ramos. Created in 1983 (then designated Hepatology Nucleus), the APEF aims to promote research in scientific issues related with the liver, the biliary tract and respective diseases, as well as to strengthen relationships between physicians in this field and to organize activities and training events. “To revitalize national hepatology, promote scientific production in the area of hepatic diseases and build bridges with privileged interlocutors in these topics, not forgetting the themes of alcohol consumption and fatty liver”, are the main goals of the new board .
