Orthopaedist Raul Alonso presented in São Paulo, in a course organized by Arthrex , on September 7 and 8 , two clinical cases of professional athletes with sports injuries, that were treated by the Group of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, coordinated by Eduardo Carpinteiro. The group has a vast experience in the treatment of complex lesions in athletes and is frequently present in this kind of scientific events. The Hospital da Luz cases were selected to integrate the set of 18 clinical cases to be presented in the course , destined to specialists, that had for chairman Moisés Cohen, director of FIFA Excellence Centre in São Paulo and full professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology from São Paulo Federal University. The first case concerned a volleyball player of the Brazilian team and S.L. Benfica (of which Hospital da Luz is the official medical service provider), and the second case concerned an athlete of the handball team with three lesions of the same shoulder, a rare situation. Both athletes were treated with success . Raul Alonso is orthopaedist in the units of Hospital da Luz network in Lisbon, Odivelas and Torres de Lisboa.
