The six candidates to Bastonary in the forthcoming elections in the Order of Doctors held their first debate last October 26, organized by Luz Saúde and Hospital da Luz Lisboa. Along about one and a half hour, Alexandre Lourenço, Bruno Maia, Carlos Cortes, Fausto Pinto, Jaime Branco and Rui Nunes presented their proposals and answered the questions of doctors attending the auditorium of Hospital da Luz Lisboa and others assisting online, on some of the topics that most concern the medical class. There was consensus around some themes – namely the creation of the speciality of Palliative Medicine, the establishment of equal careers in the public and private sectors, and the acknowledgement of the post-graduate training quality in private hospitals – and disagreement around others, in a quite lively debate that caught the attention of the audience. This initiative of Luz Saúde and Hospital da Luz took place within a particular context in the Health sector and had for purpose to give substance to the importance of the role of the Order of Doctors and contribute to a forward-looking vision in what concerns Medicine in Portugal.
