Alcindo Silva is the new president of the Portuguese Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology (SPAT). The Hospital da Luz orthopaedist, specialized in the treatment of knee diseases, was elected in the latest congress of SPAT, which took place on September 29, in Sintra, and will hold office for a three-year period until 2024. Established in 1994, SPAT is a non-profit association comprising a group of orthopaedists dedicated to arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgical technique. It has for purpose contributing to disseminate this technique in Portugal, as well as promoting activities of training and research in this domain. “It is with pleasure and satisfaction that I welcome this tenure in the presidency of the Portuguese Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology. To hold this office has, for me, a special significance: it means representing a group of colleagues at different stages of differentiation, but with the same dedication and particular interest in arthroscopic surgery”, states the orthopaedist. The main goal defined for the 2022-2024 biennium is “promoting relations with international societies, viewing to establish solid bonds that would contribute for the surgical and scientific development of our members”, he further adds.
