The hospital units and clinics of Hospital da Luz network will offer, between the 5 th and 9 th April, free screenings for allergies, available to the general public. These screenings will be made by immune-allergists by video call, upon previous scheduling. Allergic diseases have high incidence in the general population, affecting all age groups, and may compromise largely the quality of life. This Hospital da Luz initiative is destined to all those, with or without a diagnosis of allergic disease , that have doubts about allergies possibly affecting them – either respiratory, dietary, of contact or drug. “The Hospital da Luz network immune-allergists are available to clarify all doubts. Talk to us in this video free screening: we will be able to identify if you are or not affected by allergies, and we will give you adequate counselling”, states Luís Miguel Borrego , the director of the Immunology Service from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, and associate professor with aggregation to the NOVA Medical School. Allergies: They result from an inadequate response of the immunity system to environmental elements (for instance: pollens, animals/pets, dust mites) or other (food, medication, insects); They are of variable severity, going from slight discomfort to anaphylactic reaction that can be life-threatening; Can be respiratory (such as allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma), cutaneous (eczema and contact dermatitis), dietary or concerning medication . Another example is that of the allergic reaction to vaccines, that is a rare event, presently in focus apropos the allergic reactions to vaccines against COVID-19. The evolution in medicine has allowed the use of combined strategies to control the symptoms of allergic diseases. The success of this control involves the diagnosis and adequate early treatment . Enrol now and participate in these Hospital da Luz screenings!
