Luz Saúde and the Portuguese Association of Asperger Syndrome (APSA) will hold, next July 20, a free webinar on this neuro-behavioural condition , destined to health professionals and open to all citizens interested in the topic. The conference arises in the context of the initiative “20 years, 20 causes” through which the Luz Saúde group is celebrating its 20 th anniversary, APSA being one of the supported institutions. The Asperger syndrome : is included in the autism spectrum , being a developmental and behavioural disorder of genetic basis; is mostly manifested by alterations and difficulties at the level of social interaction, communication and behaviour; is diagnosed based on a series of behavioural criteria. When not properly identified, it can affect the future life of the individuals, at personal and professional level, and degenerate into complex situations in the domain of mental health; is estimated to affect over 40 thousand Portuguese (mostly young boys), that can develop an extraordinary potential, if properly followed up and integrated in society. In this Luz Saúde and APSA conference , the main features of Asperger syndrome will be approached, as long as strategies to deal with this condition. We count with the participation of a mother who will report her experience with a 28-year-old son suffering from Asperger syndrome. It will also be an opportunity to share the activity of APSA. APSA is a non-profit private social solidarity institution created in 2003 by a group of parents to support and guide people suffering from this condition, as well as their families, all over the country. Its mission is to “promote support and social integration of people with Asperger syndrome, providing them with better conditions and empowering them to lead an autonomous and dignified life”. At Luz Saúde, we share APSA’s dream, so that people with Asperger syndrome may have equal opportunity and feel accepted, respected and fulfilled. Date and time: 20 July 2021 (from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.) Registration mandatory
