After wining the Associação Académica de Coimbra 0-8 at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra (stadium in Coimbra), SL Benfica seized the Hospital da Luz Cup . The match, played on July 13, brought together two of the clubs to which Hospital da Luz guarantees clinical assistance as the official medical service provider. In preparation for the 2019/2020 football season, the two teams presented themselves with their best players. Both coaches made several substitutions throughout the 90 minutes, in order to observe the new hires of the two teams. The teams entered the field accompanied by a group of children with the colors of the Hospital da Luz Cup and, despite the strongest entry of ‘Académica’ in the game, having even created the first situations of danger near the ‘red’ goal, the national champions ended up imposing themselves to the ‘briosa’ (familiar name given to Associação Académica de Coimbra, meaning ‘honourable’) and built a massive result. Rafa (23’), Raul de Tomas (24’ and 45’), Conti (51’ and 85’), Pizzi (60’), Seferovic (62’) and Taarabt (89’) scored Benfica’s goals. Watching the match were close to 17,000 spectators, including about 200 employees of the Hospital da Luz Coimbra. After the game, Isabel Vaz, CEO of Luz Saúde, handed the Hospital da Luz Cup to the ‘captain’ of SL Benfica. Hospital da Luz is the official medical service provider of SL Benfica and Associação Académica de Coimbra, ensuring clinical assistance and fast access to health care to the 4,500 ‘red’ athletes and the near 500 from ‘briosa’. Given its differentiation and proximity to the stadium of SL Benfica, Hospital da Luz Lisboa is the unit where the team athletes perform their medical checkups , having the necessary medical and surgical assistance at the outpatient and inpatient care level, always in interconnection with the medical department of the club.
