Carlos Palos , the doctor specializing in Intensive Medicine who heads the Central Coordinating Group of the Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Resistance Program (GCCPPCIRA) at Luz Saúde, was one of the guests at ESCMID Global 2024, which this year took place in Barcelona, Spain, from April 27th to 30th. ESCMID Global is the largest and most important congress in infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and hospital infections , bringing together tens of thousands of experts from all over the world every year. This year, Palos co-chaired one of the tables at this year's Congress – on 'Antimicrobial management in special patient groups: leave no one behind' – and was part of the working group of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) for the production and updating of clinical guidelines for the management of antimicrobials in hospital emergencies, of which he will be one of the authors. He also participated in the evaluation of trainees in the 2nd edition of the ‘EUCIC Training Program in Infection Prevention and Control’. The head of Luz Saúde also presented a poster, with the results of a pilot study on the implementation of the National Antimicrobial Prescription Survey in Portugal, based on the Australian NAPS. The annual congress of this medical and scientific organization, c reated more than 30 years ago and which brings together more than 30 thousand health professionals and organizations from around the world , promotes research and the sharing of knowledge about infectious diseases, bringing together experts in all areas related to clinical microbiology, infection prevention and control and public health. This year, it took place in Barcelona and is already scheduled for 2025, to be held in Vienna, Austria, during the month of April.
