The Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (JCRS), the official bulletin of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), published in its September edition a study by the team of Hospital da Luz Lisboa Ophthalmology Service, based on the innovating experience developed there in the scope of cataract surgery. The study, that has for authors the ophthalmologists Filomena Ribeiro and Tiago Bravo Ferreira, focused on the results of the application of trifocal intraocular lenses and spectacle independence. In the study, were included 45 cases of patients submitted to cataract surgery with implantation of this type of lenses. The authors concluded that in all cases where they were applied, the trifocal lenses enabled “vision restoration and good results in visual quality”, assessed along three months of follow-up of those patients, that stopped wearing glasses. The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons are the most representative international organizations of ophthalmologists, leading in innovation in this segment of ophthalmological surgery.
