The 16 th edition of the running event Corrida do Benfica – António Leitão, which took place in the first weekend of April, counted once again with the main sponsorship of Hospital da Luz, Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s official medical service provider since 2013. The Hospital da Luz medical centre on site, equipped to respond promptly to the needs of the participants, integrated 1 doctor and 5 nurses, supported by a fire brigade, 4 ambulances, and 1 rapid-response quad bike, all fitted with life support advanced equipment. On Sunday, April 7, the main running event took place, with the participation of 8,000 athletes, among them 370 Hospital da Luz collaborators, along the 10 km running and the 5 km walking (Fun Run) tracks. In the general classification, the main running event (10 km) was won by Fábio Mascarenhas (in the senior men category), Associação Cultural Sambrasense athlete, with a time of 32 minutes and 28 seconds. On its turn, Dulce Félix (above, in the photo), Benfica’s athlete, was once again the winner in the senior women category, with 37 minutes and 5 seconds. The day before, April 6, took place the Corrida da Pequenada, always much participated, this year counting with Lu, Hospital da Luz mascot, who cheered children and youths. The different running events took place inside the Luz Stadium. Over 1,800 children and youths, from 3 to 17 years-old, among them 50 children and youths whose parents are Luz Saúde collaborators, participated with enthusiasm in the series, along the different distances around the pitch, grouped in their respective categories: Mini Águias (360 meters), Águias Traquinas (360 meters), Benjamins (600 meters), Infantis (750 meters), Iniciados (1,000 meters) and Juvenis (1,500 meters). In the end, all of them were rewarded with a medal. The clinical assistance was ensured by a physician and a nurse from Hospital da Luz.
