Diana Mendes, Hospital da Luz Lisboa nurse since 2008 concluded, last January 12, her doctorate degree in Nursing (specialty of Advanced Nursing), at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). The thesis entitled “Preoperative Nursing Consultation within the program Enhanced Recovery After Surgery ® (ERAS ® ): implementation and evaluation”, received the approval of the jury obtaining the highest rating. The doctorate jury integrated José Pereira de Almeida (vice-rector of UCP – Lisbon), Alexandra Castro Caldas (director of the Institute of Health Sciences, UCP), Cidália Castro (Superior School of Health Egas Moniz), Anabela Mendes (Superior School of Nursing Lisbon), Sérgio Deodato (UCP), Margarida Vieira (UCP) and Cândida Ferrito (UCP), the thesis mentor. ERAS ® is an innovating clinical program, based on a multidisciplinary intervention that has for purpose the adoption of the best practices in healthcare provided to patients submitted to surgery (before, during and after). The goal is a faster and improved recovery, at the same time reducing postoperative complications and risks associated with extended hospitalization. Main conclusions: The ERAS® preoperative nursing consultation exists at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, since May 2018. In the study developed for her doctorate thesis, Diana Mendes concluded that : Patients manifest a high level of satisfaction with the consultation, mentioning having had a more positive perioperative experience; Better informed patients regain earlier their autonomy in terms of mobility ( p<0,001 ), which could predict a reduction of postoperative complications.
