The City Park of Póvoa de Varzim was filled with people once again, between 7 and 11 June, for another edition of “Os Dias no Parque” (The days at the park), the major cultural event of the municipality, with entertainment spaces and concerts for all ages and tastes. Once more the clinical services partner, Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim carried out free health screenings and provided first aid whenever necessary, ensuring the health safety of all the participants in the event. Along the five days of the event, always counting with the valuable support of the Volunteer Fire Department of Póvoa de Varzim, the Hospital da Luz team provided first aid to 82 people, among children, pregnant women and elderly – namely, to treat small cuts and burns, bruises and allergic reactions. Furthermore, 650 screening exams were performed, measuring health indicators such as blood pressure, glycaemia, cholesterol and body mass index. Who was always in good health and mood, was Lu, the Hospital da Luz mascot: he kept on offering hugs and gifts, to kids and grownups alike, not to mention all the posing for photographs. The Hospital da Luz team integrated nurses Ana Machado, Ana Pinto, Bárbara Carneiro, Inês Dantas, Catarina Mendes, Catarina Miranda, José Pedro Gonçalves, Luís Azevedo, Mónica Martins, Nuno Pires, Rafaela Silva, Ricardo Gomes (the coordinator), Roberto Fernandez, Sara Costa and Sónia Cancela, besides the administrative technicians Catarina Cristelo, Cátia Molho and Daniela Gomes. “Os Dias no Parque” is the major annual initiative organized by the City Council of Póvoa de Varzim and aims to promote social cohesion in the region, bringing the population closer to local sports, cultural, social solidarity and health associations. Between 7 to 11 June, over 85 associations passed by Parque da Cidade, where they organized dozens of concerts, artistic displays, and lots of games and sports activities. Not even the rain in the first two days discouraged families, making these “Days at the Park” a success, year after year. Hospital da Luz thanks the City Council of Póvoa de Varzim for yet another opportunity to take part in this initiative, providing health care to the population. “Os Dias no Parque” is a unique celebration in Póvoa and in the country. And whenever the community so requires, Hospital da Luz is present!
