The 31 st annual congress of the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE), which took place between 2 and 5 October at the Lisbon Congress Centre, with around 2,000 participants from all over the world, included on its program the live streaming of surgeries performed in three rooms of Hospital da Luz Lisboa Operating Theatre . Filipa Osório (gynaecologist of this hospital and specialized in minimally invasive surgery in patients with endometriosis, uterine myomas and benign pathology) was the responsible, together with Storz, for the organization of the three operating rooms, leading one of the surgical teams. The surgical sessions were moderated by António Setúbal (the coordinator of Hospital da Mulher and of the Hospital da Luz Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics), honorary president of the congress. The program of this 4-days meeting in Lisbon included pre-congress courses, live surgical sessions in cases of extreme complexity, discussion sessions and GESEA certification exams, that have drawn the attention of the specialists in the area. “Minimally invasive surgery will be an important and valuable cornerstone in the healthcare provided by health systems. Gynaecological endoscopy must be at its best in these challenging times we live in. Therefore, we should all strive to make excellence a habit”, highlights the ESGE. The team coordinated by Filipa Osório performed a laparoscopic total hysterectomy (with 3 mm-instruments). Mario Malzoni (Italy) coordinated the team of the second operating room, having performed a hysterectomy to a patient with endometriosis, and the surgeons Stefano Bettochi (Italy), Shahrzad Ansari (Iran) and Úrsula Catena (Italy) coordinated the team of the third operating room, performing several hysteroscopic procedures. In the days preceding the congress, Hospital da Luz Lisboa received a group of six internists of the specialty and newly specialized gynaecologists-obstetricians from different European hospital units, which took on a brief internship promoted by ESGE (the exchange program YEP-ESGE Exchange) . Along three days, they had the opportunity to follow surgeries in the Operating Theatre and practise procedures in the Hospital da Luz Simulation Centre, the largest in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe.
