October is the month internationally dedicated to breast cancer prevention, and the Hospital da Luz Lisboa Oncology Centre will hold, on the 21, an information session, with the participation of specialists working in the area and patients who will give their testimony. The session will be open to the general public, but with mandatory previous registration. Breast cancer is the most frequent oncological disease in women, although also occurring in men. Currently, with an early diagnosis and specific treatment, breast cancer is curable in the majority of patients, being fundamental to raise awareness to the importance of prevention and timely diagnosis of breast cancer, and to disseminate information and forms of support for patients and their families. In this symposium, some of the major issues related with breast cancer will be approached, namely: The different experiences in the process of oncological disease (with testimonies by patients and families); How to promote welfare in oncological disease (the questions of beauty and self-esteem, therapeutic massage, physical exercise adapted to the different stages of breast cancer treatment, skin care). The session will also count with an intervention (entitled “Hope”) by Mafalda Ribeiro, author and speaker, patient with a rare disease. Register and participate!
