The Sports Medicine Centre of Hospital da Luz Coimbra organized, on March 22, the first edition of its Sports Medicine Journeys . The balance is very positive, states António Cruz Ferreira , coordinator of the centre, stressing the “high scientific level of the interventions and the excellent participation of the public, allowing a rich and constructive discussion between professionals from different areas”. These first journeys were destined to health professionals, namely physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and clinical psychologists, but also to sports managers, athletes, sports students, trainers, and coaches. How to recover and prevent injuries (by André Pereira , fisiologista), physiologist), nutritional strategies (by Pedro Mendes , nutritionist), and psychological management of competitive pressure (by Paulo Cunha , Psychologist) were a few of the themes approached in the journeys. Presentation and moderation were ensured by António Cruz Ferreira, Carlos Braga and Nuno Leite Oliveira . The gathering also counted with the presence of Catarina Costa, Olympic judo athlete sponsored by Hospital da Luz , who shared her experience concerning the topics covered. “The event fully fulfilled the main goal: the reinforcement of sports medicine and exercise in Portugal. There was moreover a clear appreciation and dissemination of our Centre, which gains greater recognition with this initiative and is more prepared to continue serving our athletes better”, concludes António Cruz Ferreira.
