Hospital da Luz Arrábida and its mascot, Lu, taught first aid and Basic Life Support techniques to young athletes. The initiative was a great success. The Summer edition of the Foot Camp Dragon Force, FC Porto’s football school for children aged three to 15, welcomed professionals from Hospital da Luz Arrábida on Thursday, 23 July, for a session on how to assist people experiencing health emergencies and provide first aid. While still enjoying their school holidays, participants had the opportunity to learn not only football skills but also essential healthcare knowledge, with the support of Hospital da Luz. The session took place at New Balance Park, in Constituição, Porto. Three nurses from the Pediatrics Department at Hospital da Luz Arrábida explained how to provide first aid to individuals experiencing health problems or even cardiorespiratory arrest. They demonstrated Basic Life Support procedures using training mannequins and gave the children the opportunity to practice these techniques themselves. Our mascot Lu also served as the “patient” for some of the demonstrations, much to the delight of the younger participants. Hospital da Luz Arrábida would like to thank FC Porto for the opportunity to once again be part of this initiative, as well as for all the support and collaboration provided. Sport plays a fundamental role in promoting a healthy lifestyle at every age, and Hospital da Luz is proud to support and encourage its practice.
