One of the most important courses in the area of gynaecological endoscopy is back: the Gynaecological Endoscopy Course of Hospital da Luz Lisboa will take place next 26 and 27 January, with the presence of the top national and international specialists, some of them pioneers in these techniques. The course direction will be ensured by António Setúbal , the director of Gynaecology-Obstetrics from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, specialist in endometriosis and laparoscopy, and one of the founders of this learning course, for already 27 years. “Teaching, learning, innovating, debating and continuing to advance the future: these are our goals”, highlights António Setúbal. “One of the particularities of the Gynaecological Endoscopy is to be ‘on the crest’ of actuality”, as stated by Arnaud Wattiez (on the right, in the photo above, with António Setúbal), at the closure of the 2019 edition. “It is highly diversified, approaches the main issues of medicine evolution in this area, and always counts with a great number of high-quality international specialists”, further stressed the chairman of the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery and co-founder of this learning course, adding: “The cooperation we have experienced resulted from a new generation of Portuguese physicians, truly innovative in this kind of minimally invasive surgery. And Portugal is a leading country, when it comes to quality in this kind of surgeries.” In this 22 nd edition of the Gynaecological Endoscopy Course: The participants will have the opportunity to share experiences on the main and most recent topics in the area, in an interactive way, together with some of the best renowned world specialists, from around a dozen countries. The scientific committee – composed by António Alves and Hélder Ferreira , both from Hospital da Luz, besides António Setúbal – laid emphasis on themes such as endometriosis, different aspects related with fertility, adenomyosis, neuropelveology, and infertility surgery (myomas) , but also on HRT therapy and surgery, V-NOTES technique, pelvic floor surgery and malformations. One of the main speakers will be Tommaso Falcone, the director of the area of Gynaecology-Obstetrics at the Cleveland Clinic (Ohio, USA) and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic in London, besides editor-in-chief of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (JMIG), the world most renowned scientific publication in the area of gynaecological laparoscopy. Tommaso Falcone, who will be for the first time in Portugal, will approach one of the most controversial topics of the moment – the uterus transplantation – and will share his large experience in advanced endometriosis in infertile women. In the very first day of the course, the program includes two surgeries – in cases of complex endometriosis –, which will be performed in the operating theatre of Hospital da Luz Lisboa. One of the surgeries will be carried out by Arnaud Wattiez (teaming with Filipa Osório and Sónia Barata , from Hospital da Luz, and the other one by Mario Malzoni (teaming with João Sequeira Alves and Joana Faria , also from Hospital da Luz).
