Isabel Vaz, Luz Saúde CEO , was one of the speakers in the 2 nd edition of Encontros de Cascais (Cascais Meetings), last November 15, an initiative promoted by journal Expresso founder, Francisco Pinto Balsemão, gathering a restrict group of participants to discuss major problems of the country. On Saturday, Health and Education were the sectorial topics chosen for a debate on democracy, having Isabel Vaz as main speaker , besides the economist and university professor Pedro Pita Barros, in the first panel dedicated to health. After talking about the funding model of the health system , pointing out the risks of the present system and proposing viability alternatives for a structural sector of our democracy, according to Luz Saúde CEO, Isabel Vaz commented on the intention of the government to attach internists to public hospitals, reported in the news on that very day. “ Straightaway, I advise calm. In this moment, the sector experiences great commotion: emergencies are closing, there is lack of doctors… And Winter is coming! Internists are today absolutely fundamental for the functioning of the national health service – not only in what concerns public service, but also private. They are professionals that give a lot to the sector ”, she started by saying, adding on: “ Therefore, I would say it is preferable to avoid expressions such as ‘let us attach internists, for they owe us a lot’. ‘Attachment’, has necessarily adverse consequences ”. And further added: “ We should show respect for internists and for all professionals in the national health service, that work way beyond their duty ”. Encontros de Cascais started in 2018 and count with the participation of outstanding figures from different areas and generations. In this second edition, democracy was the motto for the debate moderated by Francisco Pinto Balsemão, also counting with the special participation of former minister, Miguel Poiares Maduro.
