Hospital da Luz Clínica da Figueira da Foz and Figueira da Foz Tennis Club celebrated a strategic partnership with the goal of reinforcing the connection between health, welfare, and sports practice. The collaboration agreement foresees joint initiatives, awareness raising actions to the importance of prevention in health and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, as well as events promoting sports activity and preventive medicine. “We wish to be closer to the community and this partnership with Figueira da Foz Tennis Club is a natural step in that sense” , explained Pedro Beja Afonso , the administrator of this Hospital da Luz Clinic, further pointing out that: “Sport is a fundamental pillar for health and we believe that together we can promote healthy lifestyles near the population and our collaborators. We will activate in this new Clinic a sports medicine program, providing a rather differentiated clinical offer”. “It is a privilege and great satisfaction to know that our members and athletes can count with a partnership with such a recognized and competent entity in the area of health as Hospital da Luz. This collaboration reinforces our commitment towards providing the best conditions of welfare, safety and medical follow-up to all those that are part of our sports community”, stated on its turn the president of Figueira da Foz Tennis Club, Joana Aguiar de Carvalho (in the photo above, with Pedro Beja Afonso and Pedro Nunes, also from the club's management). The Figueira da Foz Tennis Club: Is one of the oldest institutions in the city, founded by a group of locals. The first statutes of the association were approved on the 5 th of August 1917, date of the first general assembly, and the club’s inauguration was announced on the 22 nd of August of the same year by “Gazeta da Figueira”. Besides offering the practice of tennis in its two clay courts, it has always been a distinguished meeting place for Figueira society, its tea dance events being a reference in the social life of former times. Presently, it holds several major national and international competitions, also counting with infrastructures for the practice of padel, asserting itself as a reference in the Portuguese sports scene. Hospital da Luz Clínica da Figueira da Foz operates since July this year in new premises: a modern building at Rua Rancho das Cantarinhas, near the Municipal Stadium José Bento Pessoa. This change made it possible to offer more and better health services to the population, in terms of consultations and specialty exams, some of which non existent until now, such as magnetic resonance. The new Clinic works in integration with Hospital da Luz Coimbra , so as to ensure the continuity of medical-surgical care whenever necessary and an efficient response to all kind of clinical situations. In the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, it operates in connection with Hospital da Luz Clínica da Gala , unit opened in March this year, totally dedicated to programs and treatments of physiotherapy and sports medicine. With this partnership, both institutions reinforce their active role in the community and the conviction that health and sport are indissociable allies towards a healthier life.
