Oral hygiene is part of basic selfcare in health and this is a lesson children should learn early on. Hospital da Luz Arrábida also bears that in mind and, as part of its activities near the community, has provided last April 3 an educational session on oral hygiene and health to children of Gervide Elementary School, in Vila Nova de Gaia. This initiative, very well received by the entire school community, counted with the collaboration of Colgate, which joined in delivering offers to the young ones. The session was conducted by Susana Ferreira , Hospital da Luz Arrábida dentist, who in a playful and pedagogical manner explained the importance of taking care of the mouth and teeth from an early age. How to brush the teeth correctly, the influence of diet on oral health, the prevention of decay, and the importance of regular dental visits were the topics approached. All students participated actively, asking questions and sharing their routines. Resorting to interactive material, the session was not only educational but also fun. The presence of Lu was one of the highlights in the morning: always in a good mood, the Hospital da Luz mascot helped capture the attention of children, making learning lighter and engaging. For Hospital da Luz Arrábida, this initiative is another step towards fulfilling the commitment assumed of promoting health near the younger generations. The promotion of health literacy in partnership with the educational community is essential to build a healthier and more mindful future.
