Hospital da Luz Aveiro has assumed the official sponsorship of the hundred-year-old Sport Clube Beira-Mar. The agreement, recently celebrated between the Hospital da Luz Aveiro administrator, Pedro Beja Afonso, and the president of SC Beira-Mar, Afonso Miranda, establishes the use of medical services by the club’s football teams. Founded in the turning from 1921 to 1922, SC Beira-Mar has for goal to offer a quality sportive and civic education to its athletes and establish itself as a reference in sports training in the region of Aveiro, but also with national projection. The club’s football academy counts presently with 360 athletes, with ages from 5 to 19 years-old, divided into 20 teams, competing in their respective age groups. It also includes an under-22 team, integrating a few senior athletes. Pedro Beja Afonso, the Hospital da Luz Aveiro administrator, highlights the special significance and purpose of this partnership: “With this partnership, we aim to promote the practice of sport among the younger generations, and also to allow the access of senior and training teams to the diversified and highly specialized offer of services and health professionals from Hospital da Luz Aveiro”; “Our hospital offers a Sports Medicine program, aiming a better rehabilitation of athletes and also to promote a safe practice of sports”; “We are thrilled to side with SC Beira-Mar, in the year that it celebrates its hundredth anniversary.” Afonso Miranda, the president of SC Beira-Mar, explains why the club sees this sponsorship “with great satisfaction and responsibility”: “For SC Beira-Mar, it is fundamental to pursue with its process of restructuration and growth, near the more reliable entities. Hospital da Luz Aveiro allows us to do this, besides all the direct advantages resulting from the celebrated protocol”; “The investment of Hospital da Luz Aveiro in our club will most certainly be honoured and we will live up to the purposes established between both parties”; “We thank Hospital da Luz Aveiro for this opportunity and hope that we may remain side by side for many more years, in the certainty that we intend to resort to the medical services as few times as possible, but convinced that, whenever necessary, we will be treated and recovered by the best.” In its centenary year, Beira-Mar continues to accumulate victories in football: in May, the club celebrated the winning of the title of District Champion, bestowed by Aveiro Football Association, and the subsequent access to the national championships. From next season on, they can count with all the support of Hospital da Luz Aveiro’s team!
