Hospital da Luz Funchal and Hospital da Luz Clínica do Caniço celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the National Day for Safety and Prevention at Work , on April 28. In 2023, by decision of the ILO (International Labour Organization), this date will have for motto “a safe and healthy work environment”, as a fundamental principle and right of all citizens. Safety in terms of accidents prevention has historically evolved in a gradual manner in connection with human progress, assuming a significant relevance similar to other factors, such as the environment and ecology, social welfare and quality of life. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work: Has for goal the promotion of a global culture of safety, aiming to reduce work accidents and professional diseases; Pays tribute to the victims of work accidents and professional diseases. In Portugal, April 28 was also established as the National Day for Safety and Prevention at Work, in 2021, by resolution of the Portuguese Parliament. It was the fourth European country to establish that date.
